  • This is my first name, however my name is spelled ‘Alyssandra’ (the French variation of Alessandra). Everyone always tells me how pretty of a name it is, but I still prefer to go by ‘Aly’ instead. It’s not that I don’t like my name, it’s just that I despise when people pronounce it wrong (as al-lys-SAN-druh instead of al-lys-sahn-druh). I also have a very ethnic-sounding, Eastern European last name, so it makes it easier for other people when they have to pronounce my full name. So, if you’re going to choose this name, just be sure not to add it to a difficult-to-pronounce last name. I also believe that it should go with a rather short middle name, such as mine, which is ‘Marie’. My variation of this name makes for an entirely French first and middle name, which I think is pretty in that way. I think that using an Italian middle name for the Italian version of this name would be really pretty as well! There’s actually even a city in Italy called Alessandria :)

  • I've heard the associations and negative connotations that go along with Alessandra, particularly the ones about lingerie models. It doesn't seem to occur to people that everyone has to have a name. It doesn't matter if you share a name with someone famous (or infamous) because your parents had the same opinion about your name as their parents did.
