  • Apparently the old Hebrew meaning is "Constancy" which I suppose is the same as "fixed". When I called my son Ethan my father was pretty unhappy as he thought it was a bit wimpy, until we pointed out that his movie hero John Wayne played a character called Uncle Ethan in The Searchers. I called him Ethan before it became popular with celebrities, and before the Mission Impossible movies came out. He wasn't thrilled when he was younger (except for the fact it was easy to spell) but loves it now in his late teens. And no, we aren't at all artsy or pretentious... I just thought it was a bit different (how wrong I was). There are very few Ethans older than 18 right now.

  • Not a fan of the hard E sound. It's a bit grating. It does have a trendy and smart vibe to it though so it's not exactly a bad name.
